    2004 xr 6 150 question

I am looking at one for 3K. Not familiar with mercury motors. Is this a solid motor or is there something I need to look out for? Comes with all controls as well.
    Thanks guys

Those things were bulletproof. They had more R&D effort spent on them that most any outboard on the planet, maybe excepting the Verado. They run well. Easy to hop up (ie want a quick 25 horse increase? Replace the carbs with ones from a 175). VERY good motor. I ran the stew out of one and it never failed.

I concur, great motors! Several years ago I had one on a 2004 Nitro NX 882.

I had one on a Champion 181. I had tons of water pump and over heating issues. Probably the marine technicians fault, but finally threw in the towel. Also not the easiest to start for me.
