    THIS, nothing less if your going to tow. Those smaller suv's claim they can tow 5000lbs but I personally wouldn't feel safe in one. It's easy to pull something but a different story when it comes time to stop.

    Currently running 2015 Dodge Durango RT AWD. It tows very well, plenty of power, stops great. I would absolutely buy another one, but I'm moving on to a truck. Boat is an 18' BC Cougar FTD for size and weight reference.

    Sorry, just reread original post, you said midsized.
    This time last year, I was in a similar situation as you, except the vehicle was for me.
    I wound up with a Nissan frontier. Put a topper on it, it's an SUV.
    Although, as someone said, if Mama found one she likes....

    Honda passport or pilot. Wife has a passport and she pulls my 21 ft Ranger.
