Scram Remote Breath with facial recognition unit

Our niece cam to visit us over the weekend and the wife and I took fresh towels into the spare room she was staying in as she was out for a couple hours. As we were leaving the room I turned off the lights and as I was walking out I saw a green light blinking under the bed. So naturally I looked as I did not know what could possibly be under the bed in our spare room. Well there was a black box that said scram remote breath with facial recognition plugged in and slid under the bed. We did not mention anything to her and she has gone back home as of this afternoon. I did google it and the nearest I can tell is she must have gotten arrested for DUI or something comparable and this must be a part of that. Anyone out there that can elaborate on this a little more?

She got a dui for sure. She is required to blow in that whenever prompted and it reports to court. It’s that or jail time usually.

It’s similar to a breathalyzer installed in someone’s car if they get a few DWIs. The facial scan is to make sure the person required is actually taking the breathalyzer. Too many people will have another person blow in the device for them so they can get away with drinking. This eliminates that chance.

There is also a SCRAM monitor that fits around the ankle and will detect any alcohol consumption through the skin

Didn't snoop was in my house putting fresh towels in our spare bedroom and a light was coming from under the bed so I looked. Don't consider that snooping at all. And not going to ask as she is 40 and an adult.

Doesn't mean she has a serious problem. She could have had a couple glasses of wine at dinner and got stopped on the way home

I mainly asked what this thing is for because when she visits 2 or 3 times a year she never comes to our house with a car, always rides the train from indiana . Then while she is here she always asks us to use one of our cars to go here or there and we let her. Not anymore now.

Agree , there are very few of us on here that have not got away with what is considered DUI .

Maybe start with a quick google for the town / city she lives in. Many arrest records can be found online.

If it was hidden, I guess she doesn't want to talk about it. Seems a little surprising though that she could be convicted of DUI and the family not know about it. Don't mean to pry--you don't need to respond

We live in southern IL and she lives in upper Indiana by Michigan we don't see her much.
