Thumbs Up Smallmouth jumped into my boat when fighting it in

Fished the NH BBC tournament yesterday. Brutally tough day, kept at it til the very end though. 5 minutes left, I hooked into what felt like a big smallie (spoiler: it wasn't ) and as it got close to my boat, it finally made its first jump...right into the back of the boat.

I have had smallmouth jump in my boa tat night, Not even hooked... So have a few friends of mine. We night fish with lights and think they come up to eat the bait that is attracted to the light.

At least you didn't say it was a "Giant" or a "Game Changer"! What I love about SM is that they don't know they're barely over the minimum length. The largest two (4-12 and 5-0) I've caught really didn't fight much better, but there were some in between that thought they were the real shizzle!
Don't bother me, I'm screwing for virginity.

I killed a 12-pack just to watch it die.

2 minute penalty for that fish landing violation.

    Great video by the way.

You guys need to use the heavy tackle in your neck of the woods. I won a tournament 6 years ago here in Ohio with a 5-fish limit of smallmouths weighing a whopping 4.3 pounds total. And was very glad to get 5 bites!

Up here they pretty much fight at their body weight, which is great. I rarely fish rivers, even less so for river smallmouth, so I wasn't at all prepared for how hard even the 1 pounders fought

I had the same thing happen a week ago saturday. Hooked into a 2 lb. smb on a drop shot.it got air borne about 8ft. from the boat and landed on my back deck. I fish out of a Lund Fury 1650 so he had a little more height required to clear the gunnels. My fishing buddy was surprised when this fish landed right beside him on the back deck. That fish wasn't a game changer but he sure surprised both of us in the boat.

This. It's amazing how strong some 1 pound smallmouth are. Although I've had a few larger ones that freak out once they get to the boat. That's when it gets interesting.
I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.

That sounds like the kind of weights we are winning with here in Missouri on our Ozark rivers. The fishing has been down right brutal since they got in to their summer patterns.
