150 Intruder carb bowls

I have a 1990 150 Intruder that I put new float bowls on when I went thru the carbs 4 years ago. Started noticing some issues starting this weekend and also idling fast, took a look last night and bowls are warped worse than they were before to the point of leaking. What causes this? With just a phillips head screw you can only get them so tight. Just ordered 6 more so it doesn't lean out but twice in 4 years(131 hours on the meter) sucks.

Tighten them in an x pattern until snug then one more time around in a circle. 18-24 inch pounds.
