I wonder if they didn't throw the first part of the run away or added methanol to make more volume.

One quart of denatured alcohol sells for $5-7 bucks. Take a case of fancy liquor that wholesales around $20/ 750 ml, pour out 1/4 (180ml) into an empty then refill with an 80proof(60/40 w/a) mix of denatured alcohol and water. Can get almost a half a case of extra liquor by doing that.

Overseas resorts have watered down liquor forever, seems like someone wanted to do away with that complaint by not lowering the proof, but used cheap denatured alcohol to do it and poisoned people. Instead of the resort it could also be the distributor lining their pockets as well. Easy to do if there isn't a seal/tax stamp on the liquor like here in the US.

Yikes, the wife and I just got back from Costa Rica last week and we did have a few drinks while there. Hopefully we didn't get hold of any of the tainted stuff. We both are doing fine so we might have dodged a bullet!

Apparently this is happening in other countries as well, something like 800 have died around the world.

This has been one of my suspicions as to the cause of death in the Dominican Republic for some time now. We shall see where this factoid leads.

Hope they don't figure out a way to poison their cigars.

why dont they just say poisoned intead of tainted. if you drink it you will die and it was done on purpose so they were poisoned and the people that put the poison in the liquor should be charged with murder.
