    Did not realize price difference

Stopped at a grocery store to get some ice cream. Price 5.87 I think, but cashier rang it up for 2.99 then said that is wrong that is ebt price. So working folks are getting double screwed, higher prices and paying for ebt cards. Nice.

Never realized it is marked down also. No wonder people want those.

Think of medicaid vs cash vs private insurance. Same service at much lower rate.

I don't even like to think about this stuff, I get pissed off and nothing ever changes. Go back to giving them flour, milk, cheese, and vegetables. Win win for farmers and recipients.

is this true or just some not too sharp cashier telling you wrong information? does not sound right. been behind plenty of ebt people and never noticed ebt discounts. albertsons has big screens and its easy to look at while youre waiting in line. makes me mad when I see how the couponers kill it in those unfortunate times im stuck behind them! lol

No stirring pot. The price rang up 2.99 and EBT WAS DISPLAYED. Cashier removed EBT (symbol went away) and my price of 5.87 came up. I never have had EBT card so I don’t know why it rang up like that originally.

Look at the link Mark Perry posted, as I did. One of the topics there that I hope a lot of locals here would look at is here:

    https://lowincomerelief.com/how-to-move-out-of-state/

One of the hot topics in Seattle is "Rent Control", which NYC has had for decades. The problem is that there's no low income housing, because the Seattle building/zoning department has allowed developers to buy up cheap old houses, tear them down, and build apartments and condominiums. So there's the problem. Let the developers buy the property, but don't re-zone it so they can only build single-family homes!

In affluent areas like Bellevue/Kirkland, it's pretty common for one or more big waterfront homes to be bought for $1M+, torn down and one $50M house built on the combined lots. Why not disallow that, too? Go fishing on Lk. Washington and you are shocked at how many retired drug dealers must live here. The stupid thing is that those folks have so much $$$ or credit that they have a 50'+ yacht tied to their dock, it never moves, and the only people you ever see in the yard or on the dock are hired help. The cities are happy for all this re-zoning and "development" because they get to collect more taxes. It's BS!

No one likes waste or fraud. With that said, i think there are truly a lot of people on EBT that deserve to be on the program. If some disabled Veteran can get ice cream for 3 bucks i'm good for that because i am fortunate enough to be able to pay 6 bucks for the same ice cream. I would not wish to trade places with any of the legit poorer people.

I totally agree. The only thing I am stating is I didn’t know there are price differences with it.

As as for those on it that do not need it, that is a bunch of crap and we all know there needs to be some better regulation.

Sadly, with all the perceived need for upper and middle-level management, it's probably cheaper to not worry a lot about regulation. I would appreciate it if they'd just call it what it is...WELFARE. That might reduce the number on the dole by 2%. Increased regulation or enforcement of the rules probably would cost more than that. Why? It's how government works!
