    Survived 1st Bay boat trip!

Made it down to Galveston yesterday. Turned out to be a windy but otherwise beautiful hot Texas day. We launched off the end of the Texas City dike and cruised out to the North Jetty, went through the boat cut which puts you on the protected side from wind and ship wakes. You could almost walk boat to boat out there...it was too rough for offshore so everybody was foshing the jetty. Squeezed in a hole and spot locked the minn kota. We pretty quickly were catching little sand trout and other species that I didn't recognize.

Lessons learned...get to the bait shop very ealry...we were there at 6:15 and they were sold out. Another place sold me their last pint of shrimp and a couple dozen mullet. We fished u til we ran oit of bait around 3:30. Cruised around the bay and put about 30 miles on the boat...she performed beautifully and rode awesome. Amazing what 23 plus feet and 100 inch beam will do for a ride...bass boats are going to suck forever now. Can't wait to get offshore!

Makes a good point as to why we don’t have 23 foot big water bass boats. I fish nothing here in Texas that I couldn’t fish in a 23 foot bay boat. It’s all big resovoir, big wave, deep water fishing. I don’t know why I suffer in a shorter boat with much less ability to handle waves. Nice pics of a good day!

I seriously want to have Haynie make me a 23-24 foot low side boat with a bass fishing top cap and storage lay out , with on floor seating and a recessed troller pedal. I’d get some snickers in the parking lot at Humphrey but when the wind picks up to 30 just before tournament launch, I’d have a lot of new potential fishing partners lol.

That SCB can run in a bathtub! You have a death grip on those poor trout! Glad you’re enjoying the new boat! There’s nothing like having the ability to go ANYWHERE with no fear!
