Quick question. Had the boat since March and finally need to switch to the port tank. Is it really as easy as just turning the dial under my seat to the port position??

Yep, you should feel it click into position. I had a knob strip on my 97 462 and had to replace the unit couple of years ago. If that happens, remove the screw and knob and change tanks with an adjustable wrench on the selector shaft.
