    Ranger 374V prop?

Wondering if anyone has gone through this. I have an 87 374V with a 88 Merc 150 XR4 which originally had the (smaller) 4 1/4" 1.78:1 gear case and now I installed a 4 3/4" 1.87:1 gear case and was wondering what the best prop might be? Also, running a 5" CMC jackplate. I was running a 13 1/2" x 24p four blade with 3/8" holes that I believe was worked on before I bought it 20 years ago or so but the hub is spun, so I can't really try that one to start. Before the gearcase swap I was running about 60 (gps) at 5600 rpm. Thanks in advance.

    Paul

The difference in fear case ratios you listed will make about 1” difference in pitch to hold the same rpm, however changing props manufacturers/styles will vary as much as that or more. That being said a large diameter 24” prop would put you a little over 63 mph assuming 10% slip with a 1.87 ratio at 5800 rpm so 24 is a good starting point.

    I have a '90 374v with a 175hp Mariner.

    I spin a 25p Tempest (not a plus), the A45 model...which is supposedly a really light 25p.

Pretty sure I have a stock LU.

My top speeds are around 62 - 63 solo, light load...so I would say you are doing pretty good.

Thanks Hez. I was doing pretty good until I needed to replace my lower unit and now my prop so I'm basically starting over at this point.

I also have a 5" jackplate...I believe my PTP is about 4.25"....my boat seems to perform best with the motor a little deeper

Twitch, a user from up in your area has a 374v too...he might chime in with some input.

Thanks Hez. I already spoke with Al this week about this. He's running a 24 raker with no plate.

I have a 1989 361V with same motor with small gear case with a Laser II 24p. I have been talking to Mark Croxton as I need to drop down in pitch. He told me the even number pitches were made for the smaller gear case and the odd pitch were for the large gear case...
