Is High Rock a better choice?

Still looking for vrbo's. Evidently, we need to be able to rent a pontoon....per wife, and inlaws (not sure how much vacation this is going to be......)

Found a couple VRBOs on High Rock. Certainly looks bigger than Tuckertown. I need to read more about it, check out the charts. Think it would make a good destination for a Mon-Fri stay and family fishing?

High rock is a lot bigger. During the week you will be able to fish no problem. But like most lakes on the weekends it can get rough.

Tuckertown only has a couple houses and they may not be for rent. If you are set on the Yadkin lakes than High Rock or Badin Lake will be your best bet but I am not sure if either have pontoon rentals. If you can't find any pontoon rentals on High Rock or Badin than Lake Norman will be your next option. It's about an hour from High Rock and Badin and I am sure there are plenty of houses that are vacation rentals.

Thanks. Yeah, not so much set on anything or place in particular, more having an issue finding places on relatively short notice and that allow dogs. Been looking all over the obvious big lakes in VA and NC. If we leave the dogs behind, we have more options, but I always feel bad doing that. The place we've found on High Rock is about a mile and a half up Swearing Creek from the main lake. We dropped the ball this year and didn't plan ahead. It's also our first year pretty much having to take vacation in summer because our oldest son is between kindergarten and first grade. Up until now, we really never took vacation in summer, always in fall after everyone has quit their vacationing. Now I guess we are a part of that crown by default. I'm not happy bout it, but such is life.

High Rock is a good lake to fish. Bass fishing is pretty good as is crappie.

I think you can rent pontoons at Tamarac Marine on High Rock which is much better than Tuckertown.

Swearing creek would be a good place to start from. Gives you the most water to cover in a pontoon.

Thanks Tater400. I've been in contact with them but I think the issue is that you are limited to that arm of the lake because of the train trestle?

Tamarac marina used to rent pontoons as well. I'm not sure if they still do.

    Thanks for the update!

If we don't make this work out (the house rental thing is a pain with dogs in tow, and now it's becoming last minute. We really need to plan better.....) I'd like to come down and visit the lakes in the area anyway. I like a good adventure. Thanks for all the help!
