1998 150 Optimax reeving up at startup ( Don Weed )

    Don,

Motor has been running fine. Made a long run in rough water.

Shut motor off at ramp to load boat.
When I started it it revved high. Shut it off and restarted and it ran fine.

boat started fine next day but couple times when I started it it revved up again. One time it wouldn't start. waited 5 min and it started right up.

Got home and noticed there was oil running down cowling. (still haven't found leak yet but the resivior cap was loose so might have came out there)
I am going to keep looking for oil leak.

    Where should I begin......

    Serial # OG681323

Be sure there are no fuel leaks under the cowl
Perform fuel pressue test including leak down
    Find that oil leak
    Thank You Leon Pugh

If you have a hotfoot you might check to make sure nothing is restricting it from returning to idle position every time.
