Is anybody reloading .450 BM for a bolt action yet with a 200gr - 250gr bullet? I'm interested in trying the Barnes 200gr XPB in my Ruger American, and am looking for guidance. I haven't seen any Barnes data yet for that combo.

Never shot that one but when it comes to 45s I have found that good old fashioned lead bullets give great performance and are cheaper to boot.
200 grains seems really light for a 45 rifle. Most bullets are 300gr up. In my experience the heavier bullets 350gr+ shoot better but barrel twist may have something to do with that.
The .452 Barnes XPB is designed for the .460 S&W Magnum. Solid copper will (should) expand and hold together with an exit wound on whitetails. That is my goal, as the factory loads of 250gr FTX Hornady do not want to exit. They seem to grenade like a varmint bullet, leaving virtually no blood trail.
I'm considering some other 250gr copper bullets by Cutting Edge also.

I've settled on Lyman 50th data of 43.3gr of 'Lil Gun, and the Barnes 200gr XPB at just a tick over 2,400fps out of my Ruger American 16" with a can. It hits 3-1/2" high at 100yds right now, but I will get my scope readjusted next trip to the range.
This load put two shots through one hole, and the 3rd made the group a figure eight... under 1" at 100 yds. I'm pretty happy with that.

Off subject, but what optics are you guys using on the 450 American?
