    SS wear rings

I pulled one of my UFP oil bath hubs off the spindle and was surprised to see an O-ring sitting on top of the wear sleeve. After searching around it seams that the Vault system uses an O-ring under the SS wear ring but others do not.

Do I have this right? I had another hub off a month ago and don't remember an O-ring.

Edit: I took a closer look. There is a small groove between the sleeve and the hub that the O-ring sits in. It appears that OEM parts were not used when I had it serviced.

That o ring on the outside of the wear ring is used when they paint or galvanize the axle. Just used for masking.

Sorry pards. Bad advice or your not understanding what is needed. Actually the o ring goes on with some lubrication in the groove before you reapply a new wear sleeve over the o ring. On mine there isn’t a lubrication hole in the wear sleeve. The sleeve can be found here https://www.trailerpartsdepot.com/p-...60-041-00.aspx among several different web sites. This is the one for my trailer. The o ring is sold separately. It’s function is to repel moisture from leeching in under the wear ring when the axle is submerged. It’s function is not a cosmetic paint line. Water repelling O ring that goes under sleeve. https://www.trailerpartsdepot.com/se...archterm=32736

We might be talking about different o rings. I was told what i posted by UFP themselves.

The O ring on the outside is used when painting. Some take it off before shipping some dont. I understand there is one under the sleeve but he is asking about the one on the outside.

Yep, the one on the outside. It was seriously cracked and couldn't have been doing much good as a seal. That would also make sense given the age of my boat.

The o-ring on the outside is not needed.
