    Need battery advice

2013 merc 250 Pro Xs hanging on a 2009 Z8. I’m running two 10 inch hummingbird Core units and 998 also. Two Power Pole’s, radio, live wells, jack plate etc. all hooked to the starter battery. 36 V TM running on 3 optima blue tops that are juat a few years old. My starter battery is also a blue top that was new October 2015. Its toast. I honestly haven’t used the boat much since fall of 2016. Before I put the new optima blue tops in I also had four blue tops. Since putting all the extra electronics and power poles on it running low miles during the day on a tournament etc. etc. I’ve always struggled with my starter battery.

I’m Thinking about adding a new battery and the designated one just for all my hook ups and the starter battery will be standalone...a 5 battery set up. I think they like to call the 5th one a “house battery” Still researching that and checking to see if I have enough room. So aside from everybody’s personal battery brand preference tell me what I need to put a starter battery in now if I was going to keep it everything hooked up to that battery and stay with A four battery system. Thanks in advance guys

Head over to the Merc 3 Liter forum and find the "Batteries that meet the requirements......." post. Short answer, you'll need a group 31 AGM with a LOT MCA/CCA/Reserve Capacity.

I did this and its been perfect so far (2 years). it wasn't cheap (400+ dollars) but a long warranty (I got 4 years from a battery specialty shop)....Even for AGM, it weights 75lbs.....after this dies, I will go Lithium..... https://www.batteriesplus.com/produc...1m/sli31agmdpm

Optimas are overrated. Look at their specs compared to others in the same price range and you’ll see why. I’d go with Batteries Plus X2 31 series for cranking and Duracell AGM 31s for TM. Ask me how I know.

X2 I believe is a branded Northstar. Excellent battery. I got the Northstar AGM 31 with 1150 cca and 220 reserve. You can pick one up online with free shipping and 4 year warranty for around $375.

Another vote for the NAPA battery, quite a beast and leaves more money in the wallet at the same time.
