I believe the “X” designates a 25” lower unit - http://www.suzukimarine.com/Product%...2/DF250SS.aspx
I have no clue what the dealer is saying there. I checked the tag on my motor and it just says DF250S and the same with my owners manual. They only offer the 250SS in either a 20 or 25 inch shaft and I don't think that there's a salt water variant of one either. If you are on the FB, there's a Suzuki Outboards Owners forum with a few dealers that could answer your questions.
