How many hours on your motor?

So, I bought a used 2005 225 Pro XS from Lee in 2015. It had 585 hours on it when I bought it. Since then I replaced the air pump. I'm now over 800 hours. Of course most of them are at idle (side image scanning). Other than the air pump it has been solid. Just trying to get a feel for what kind of hours are the norm for these 3.0 Merc's.

I've only got around 275 hours on my 2012 250 Sport XS.

When I owned a couple of saltwater boats and spent a lot of time on the saltwater forums, it didn't seem uncommon for the optimax motors on off shore boats to have 1000-2000 hours on them. Most offshore guys don't turn their motors off when they go off shore so they put the hours on them fast.

Agree with Joe. I always get so nervous at 300-500 hours. Then I go ride on a salt water boat and they have 1000-2000 hours and I’m reminded of perspective and that it really isn’t that many hours. You did the compressor. That is the big one.

Yea I caught the compressor before it bit the dust by checking the filters. They had a little bit of metal in them so I pulled the compressor apart and the crank journal for the rod bearing was scored. So, I yanked it and installed a new one. Those dudes are not cheap either. It was the original compressor and I changed it at 690 hours.

My compressor bit the dust at 170 hours. $1200 later I was back on the water!
