    Deep cranking

For those of you who throw the big 8XD's and 10XD's, what rod/reel setup are you using? TIA

Also use a Powell 704 can for all other crankbaits

Phenix X13, Tatula Type R 6.3:1, Sniper 12 lb fluoro. I honestly don't throw baits as big as the 8 and 10xd but this setup handles DT20s, 6XDs, and the like without issue. I would throw an 8XD or 10XD on it without hesitation if I needed to.

I use a Kistler Mod 7'11" w/a Lew's Super Duty. Also, for a more affordable alternative, I use a BPS Crankin Stick and one of their cheaper reels (Pro Qualifier or Formula). That setup is very good, especially for the $.

Dobyns 805CB RM and Abu Orra Winch with 10 or 12 lb line. I have several more expensive reels but the cheap Winch is hard to beat.

I have a dobyns 805cb rm. 8xd would be no problem on that rod. Never thrown anything the size of a 10xd but I would think it would be ok as long as ya dont put a ton of ass behind it.

i have 3 that i throw the big XD crankbaits on :
Shimano Crucial 7:11MH lure wt 5-3 ounces its med hvy with a extra fast tip with a older revo 4 to 1 and i love it .
Powell Glass 7.5 length 1/4 to 1 1/2 ounce fishing 13 concept A it gets by on the 8XD but throws all the others good love the Powells
Dobyns Champion 806 Heavy Glass XP CR its 8 ft length and with a fishing 13 C in 5 to 3 ratio i love the rod but im considering trying to find another 4 to 1 ratio reel simply because when you throw the big XD you need the slower ratio because if or when you throw them often you need that ration to keep from having them work your ass off lol !!! being serious i love to throw them on my home lake ( Lake Fork) and they truly catch some big bass but they will work you and your arms like you been unloading hay trucks all day tossing the hay bales into the top of the barn ! But theres no doubt when a big fish nails it cause it VICIOUS !

    I wouldn't throw a 8xd on the same rod as a 10xd. 1oz vs 2 oz baits. dobyns recommends 806cb for 10xd , 805cb for 6xd , 8xd.
Of course there are cheaper alternatives..
