Practice partner for the BASS open on the James River.

Didn’t know if anyone needed a practice partner for the james event. Got a free spot on my boat.

Me neither, don’t feel bad. Should be a fun experience either way.

Word of advice fellas, please be careful out there... There is a LOT of stuff to hit in the water, lots of shallow flats to get stuck on, old boats, barges, rock jetties, sand bars, the list goes on..Best to idle if you are unsure of stuff.

Funny you say that. I bought a used but relatively recent Navionics chip. The James is on it but it’s vague at best. I’ve heard there’s not anything better because it’s tidal. Is that true?

And turn off the depth finder as you enter some creeks. Shallows up quick and you will find the checks pinching the seat.

The Potomac is pretty good and tidal but James is terrible

If your gps unit has the capability to access the sonar feature on the navionics card it will show more topography. I think it will be fish card.

Stay inside of channel marker buoy when on plane on til you know depth out side of markers. At low tide some areas can be only foot or two deep.
