same as a wacky rig, just reel in, sweep, loose drag etc

when i use a wire weedless it seems 50-50 when I use a open non weedless its good to go. the longer neko hook works better than a normal wacky hook because of how the hook is in line with the bait

To be honest sometimes you can set the hook and have no trouble .

I don't buy the reel and sweep method. Watch Dave Dudley. He whacks 'em. So do I. I want to hear the drag slip. 8 lb. line the drag slips easy, but I know I've set the hook as well as I can.

Suspect the hook is the problem more than anything. As mentioned above, if it’s one with a wire weed guard you really have to whack them which really doesn’t turn out well unless you use some heavy line. Really the only time I’d even consider something like that is around brush, and even then I think you’re better off Texas rigging it. Google the “chicken rig” to find an article from Wired2Fish where they talk about rigging it that way.

I fish the VMC Neko with the fluoro weedguard on light braid with a 7 lb Sniper leader on medium-light spinning tackle. No issues whatsoever, but that weed guard isn't going to keep you from getting hung in brush either.

I reel and use a set the hook straight up with a light hookset. Seems to work for me. I don't mess with the weed guards though. They just get in the way.

Google ike dumb dumb rig, you could definitely go the double hook route. I am intrigued by it and may use it for tourneys, though I wonder how often it will cause a bleeder having the second hook etc.

I use that hook as well. I usually make two quick straight up hook set pops.
