OK, now I have a kayak

Give me some places I should use it. Any general places to put in or areas to look would be appreciated.

Yeah Jim, I don't like to dodge them in the X-boat either. So far it's fun to play with and I've caught fish out of it. Haven't been to a lake yet, when I do I'm staying in the small waters. I am too top heavy and afraid the kayak will buck me off.

Gene, you need to be very careful. Most kayakers go thru some training, mostly in how to recover if you find yourself upside down in the water. There was a story on our local news a few months back where a kayaker was killed when he turned over in high, fast running water and never recovered. They searched for days before the water finally subsided a bit and they found his body stuck in a root wad well downstream.

Now, after listening to that story, are you sure you want to do this? lol

Mine is a sit on top so I can hopefully only be upside down for a few seconds unless you are talking payments.

Let me know if you want to try the Village lakes. The small lakes on the east side are perfect for a kayak.

The lakes in the National Forest north of Jessieville are good for kayaks too.

I just got a sit-on-top as well. Haven't had it on the water yet. If you're looking for somewhere to go quick, the tailwater of Carpenter Dam is nice. You can usually catch something, plus when generating, the cool water feels nice! When you're looking for a longer trip, but still fairly easy, the trip from Remmel Dam to Malvern is nice. Plus some decent smallmouth in that stretch.

I had a ocean Kayak sit on top- very stable...I never used it much but here are my waters- barrow pits(next to highway) , few strip pits and small state park lakes. I used a rope(parachute rope) and a link of chain for a drift anchor, even used a dog anchor (screws into ground and rope to dog leash is tie to it) and some knotted rope to get out of mucky ponds. I was fishing a pond about 1/2 mile from cement plant and every time I paddled up the bank, I would slide back in the pond. got out and almost sunk up to my shoulders in cement dust muck.. This is when I got the dog anchor and knotted rope to pull myself out of muddy ponds. a stadium seat(padded) makes a good cheap seat.

Got us a couple of kayaks a few weeks ago. Went small, light, and cheap in case it turned into too much trouble. You know how that is, like camping....Camping is great, but the before and after are a real pain in the ass.
Anyway, so far so good. We bought our stuff based on summertime low water conditions. The theory was to....Unload them, fish a pool, load them back up and move on to the next pool...unload, fish, reload..etc.
However, it seems just one pool (so far) is plenty for us. I think we spent 6 hrs in one pool on Big Piney yesterday. It was at least a half mile long, but, we were not ready to leave when we did either.
So far we've fished and played in two pools on the Mulberry, and two pools on Big Piney. And each pool was plenty big enough for a day.
Did one float trip from Redding to Turner Bend on the Mulberry. Said it takes about 2 hrs....we did it in eight though

Look like a pair of professional (fun seekers) Glad you are having fun with them. It does put a different outlook on fishing the creeks. I plan on trying some of those places sooner or later.
