Gel cracking an issue on 16s?

Looking at a 16 721 on Saturday. Was told this weekend the 16s are having a huge issue with gel cracking. Just trying to see if this is a legit issue.

I haven’t noticed any on my 16 but I have seen some posts of Facebook where people have some cracks but I don’t know what years.

I don’t think I’d let that scare me off. Any brand boat can have an issue from time to time. I’m defiantly not saying Phoenix does. Buy it if you like it.

If you don’t see them already on a 3 getting ready to be 4 year old boat probably not going to happen, unless it was never used.

Mines got enough to make up for everyone that doesn’t have them. Part of the game in my neck of the woods. I wouldn’t let it affect anything as far as purchasing a Phoenix unless you want a garage queen of a boat.

I had a 5' long gel crack on the top cap of my 17 that Phoenix warrantied - but as mentioned above when you run big water you greatly increase the likelihood of cracking. I had a few small ones as well on my Skeeter from a rough day on Oneida. If you walk around at any of the ramps on Champlain they aren't hard to find, and brand makes no difference.

    I have a 2011 Phoenix 618 with no issues.

Would you say that the bigger boats, no matter what brand, have a better chance of cracks because of more flexing in rough water?

I’m not aware of any cracking issues. I’m on lake of the Ozarks, where there’s not many Birds. However, those few that are on the lake don’t seem to have any issues with cracking.

They're all over toledo and Rayburn. If there was an issue it would be known for sure

Two and a half years ago I fished a BC event right after buying my bird and think I saw one or two other birds in the Pavillion cove before launch. That last event there in June there had to be dozens of birds in the cove.

I have a 16, she's as clean as a whistle, just as my 10 was when I sold her. Make sure to tell your friend who you 'herd' this from about the clean 16's mentioned in this thread.
