Your heat source for powder paint?

I just started pouring a few months ago, and a propane torch is not cutting it. Will a cheap heat gun from Harbor Freight be the answer, or jump up a step to a multi temp gun? I’ve got to build a fluid bed for my paint and want to tackle my heat source problem as well. Recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I use a heat gun on high. Only heat just long enough to put a light coat of paint on to the lead... Too much heat =too much paint and you will get runs/drips when baking. Lighter heads take less heat. Count the seconds held in the heat while rotating. Quickly swish/dip into the paint.

Heat gun works well. Toaster oven does as well.

I quit using a fluid bed.... I pour the paint into a glass bowl and keep it stirred up just from swishing the heads.

These are exactly what I use.

a small toaster oven is your best bet.. if you read enough on powder coating you will find out it is best to bake the jigs at @ 350, dip, then cook for @ 10 minutes to set the powder, makes for a much better/harder powder coat.. you will need a fluid bed, dipping in the jar will get too much powder on the jigs and while they cook it will try and drip off causing a little cone head on the jig..

For small runs an alcohol lamp will work perfect for you with just a couple of seconds on each side of the jig. check ebay, they run around $10.00

Mine would not stay lit longer than 30 seconds no matter what I tried.

Thanks for all of the input. I picked up a toaster oven to cure, which I was completely overlooking, and a HF variable temp heat gun.
I’m also going to attempt a fluid bed, to at least try it out. Hopefully these changes make for a more consistent product.

Were you using 91% isopropyl alcohol?

Sounds like the alcohol was not absorbed into the upper part of the wick.
Use denatured alcohol and it will burn for hours.

I have a variable temp heat gun set to around 350f, seems to work well. If I set it hotter it can melt little ned heads, but around 350 seems to work well for weights from 1/16 to 1.5oz. Even variable temp heat guns are pretty inexpensive.

This but I cure for 30 minutes, I notice a difference as I used to cure for less time.
    Question everything!
