    Running hot at idle

I have a 2008 Yamaha HPDI 250. Last couple of times at the lake I noticed the motor temp gauge will up quickly when I’m at idle, over 140. When I speed up a little bit the temp drops quickly and runs fine any suggestions?

Do you have a link to a video on how to do this? I don’t have great reception where I am so it’s hard to search. Thank you

Poppit valve is for high speed. It won't have enough pressure to push that spring until you build up some Rs. When was the last time you did a W/P.

That’s not exactly true. Debris in the poppit will allow it to stay open and bypass water at idle/lower rpm and cause overheat. It’s a fairly common issue.

Classic symptom of poppet valve not closing completely, usually due to debris or corrosion.

If not poppet, check water pump. The stainless steel plate under the impeller needs to be smooth with no grooves or gouges.

Omg. Just had the same issue. Was tubing with the kids, sstopped at a beach, sucked somethin up in motor because i had an alarm go steady on me, and no pissin. (Was still idling, so not at speed.) Took it home, flushed motor out, and figured it was all good. Idled about a mile the next trip out (no wake zone), and overheated again. Im gonna try the poppet valve and check the thermostats. But at higher rpm i dont alarm out. Thanks guys. Hopin this cures it.

Could also be the tuner. The exhaust tuner is classic for overheat at idle speed and fine running down the lake

Tuner burns pieces out of it. Hot exhaust hangs around longer and heats the water up. Was exactly what was wrong with my 2003 ox66. Apparently, it's fairly common

Is the OP looking for the most probable cause for his symptoms or is he looking for anything possible that can go wrong and cause his symptoms?

Changed poppet valve, thermostats and water pump on mine and that fixed it right up.

That makes sense. Seen HPDI's destroy tuners. Didn't know the OX's did. CJ
