BBC neck docs step in please

Ok pain in left shoulder thought I had tore something up. Went to bone and joint doc this morning and during exam she pushed down on the top of my head while I was looking left. I seriously about pissed myself from the pain. X-ray shows L5,L6,L7 are to close together she wouldn't state the disc status just made me a appointment for a neck specialist in a couple weeks.

For those that have been through this is their anything I can do to find relief from the discomfort? She gave me a steroid and pain med but tramadol is a bad joke. I was in Hope's one of you have found something that helps. I have 10-12 hour days and two flights coming up that are miserable in this condition. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

My C4, C5 and C6 are fused from an old injury. Feel like a new/old kid after the surgery. This was done 10+ years ago.

I just went through this, and ultimately needed surgery to remove/replace a disc in my neck. There wasn't a lot that helped with the pain other than pills. I did get relief from going to a chiropractor, but it only lasted a day or two (which is why I was going 3x a week!). You may also get some temporary relief by using a cervical traction device. I bought this on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also try alternating heat and ice. Good luck, I know it sucks.

I would go to a chiropractor first but I also have a chiropractor who I trust and go to first for anything related to my back and neck. A good chiropractor will look at your x-rays and tell you if they can help or not. I'm not sure a good neck specialist would tell you, you may be better off with a chiropractor and not surgery. Doctors tend to go with pills and surgery first to solve our problems.

I had compressed discs in my neck that were causing terrible head aches. My chiropractor fixed my neck issues along with other back problems. My spine was a mess when I first started going

The thing that helped me the most was a muscle relaxer, I guess the muscles was all knotted up from the pain, Tizanidine was what the doc gave me till the surgery, I have 3 fused now

This is what I did. Once you start feeling better. Don't stop going! I go once every three months. Needed or not.

If we’re talking muscle relaxers, I choose Soma! You can actually still function on that one.

Look at this nerve map and you’ll see that the lumbar (Lx discs) have nothing to do with shoulder pain.

    https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki...-_anterior.png

I had a C4/5 and C5/6 fusion ten years ago. My symptoms were pain shooting down my right arm, weakness, and a loss of feeling and tingling in my left hand. I never had any pain in my neck. I’ve had other back issues and one lower back surgery since.

I can pretty well tell you what the doc will do
    - order an MRI
    - possibly some imaging where they inject dye into your spinal fluid
    - nerve conduction tests
    - steroid injections

surgery is the last straw, and I was two years into the above treatments when I finally had the fusion surgery.

I am extremely leery of chiropractors. Some are good and can help, some are absolute quacks. In my case I had a couple of collapsed discs in my neck and a large bone spur. The wrong chiropractor could have easily left me paralyzed.

    Good Luck

My 1 and 2 along with my 5 and 6 were stuck together causing migraine headaches 5+ days a week. I went to a highly reputable chiropractor that used a X-ray machine that took a movie of what was going on. He then showed me the stuck joints right after. It took him about 3 months of regular visits to get them spaced back out and moving correctly. Over the course of 3-4 years now, I only go see him once every 6 months now. Been migraine free after about the 1st month of seeing him. I know not all doctors are the same and i’m Sure there are some chiropractors out there that do more damage than good but mine is awesome.

Edit-bad thing about pain meds are that it hides the pain and you could do more harm and not feel it. If you are taking pain meds and feel better, don’t over exert yourself till you can get fixed.

4 months out on fusion of 4-5,5-6,6-7. I had pain in shoulder, tingling in left arm, and weakness in arm. Not a 100% yet but golfing and fishing at will. Arm symptoms are gone but still have weird muscular pain in back so often. Hopefully you are a ways from surgery but for now its difficult to control the compressed cervical nerves you may have. Steroid epidural injections would be the first choice. Good luck.

I don't have your problem, but, like many of us, I have had back pains on and off for many years.

The only over-the-counter meds that I found that worked were simple Doans Extra Strength Back pils. Cheap, easy to try. They were a miracle worker for me. They will NOT cure anything, they just gave me temporary relief.

I would not recommend a chiropractor for neck/disc issues. My discs were in bad shape in my neck on 5,6,7 around 10 or 12 years ago. Tried everything before surgery. Surgery finally fixed me up. The discs were pressing on nerves and had to be partially cut out. Still good to this day. You need to see a reputable neurosurgeon.

Yep neck never hurt at all just left shoulder, well till the doc pushed down on the top of my head while I was looking to my left. The pain was like a shock that ran through me on my left side from my head all through my body.

The steroid pack doc gave me seems to be helping a lot. I took one of the pain pills yesterday after filling the script nothing since. Shoulder has a ache that dosen't go away but I can deal with it over pills. Got some solanpas, heating pad, and cold compress from Walmart going to try this afternoon.

Thank you for the advice guys I just got to manage this flight coming up and working till I see the neck doc.

L4 L5 S1 are just above your belt line . C4 C5 are in the neck. T1 through T5 ( which I fractured all five) start just below the neck.
