might be a strange question but ????

when graphing with your Lowrance units, when you go over an image of say a rock and you see it on the screen, how far back is it when in the middle of your screen??? in other words your going along and see something interesting on your screen and throw a marker out will it be near the object or will it be off by say 10' or so just curious ???

    That depends on:
    - Transducer and frequenzy used (coneangle)
    - Scrollspeed on your unit.
    - Boatspeed
    - Depth

run a test against a piece of structure along the shoerline that you can see above water to get an idea

Careful what you ask for. Below is a link to a thread where this has been discussed at great lengths. The thread is currently at five pages and counting, but you can probably start on page four and get the gist of it.

The advise on that thread will probably make your head spin. In reality, most anglers are not going out on the water with a ti-85 calculator, digital protectors, and their notes from geometry class.

You can mark a waypoint and use range ring to help line you up. Eventually you might find the structure. Or, get a 360 unit and take the guess work out and simply go fishing!
