That would be amazing if it is the same pad design and hull thickness. I had a 176 mag and it was rock solid. Awesome tackle storage and such. I love my xpress x19, but the fit and finish on the Triton Mag was light years ahead of my x19.

I hope not. I wish they would use the same layout as the old Magnums. That is not a bash on the Ranger either. For the record, I have owned two of the Ranger tins, and they are great boats. I just really like the layout of the older Magnum’s as well as any boat on the market. Love having storage under the seats, and I really like the starboard compartment on the deck being open all the way to the front of the boat as well.

If they do I might be in the market by then. I've been thinking of going back to tin anyway.

I had a 176 Triton Mag. Those boats were and still are the best aluminum boats ever made. I found a old forum post where the Xpress fan boys were talking about how great they are.

From what I understand, the Ranger 188p, 198p are the same hulls as the Triton magnums. Ranger didn’t engineer those hulls.

I saw a 176Triton Mag southbound on I-81 in NY today, the hull looked like new so either it hasn't seen much use or it has been babied. A good looking boat (I used to own one).

Scream n chicken, have you had to replace the underside of your deck lids yet and if so what did you use? Mine are in desperate need.

Same hull designer that did the 197 mag. Keith Poche has been running on in the MLF's and loves it.

I was recently told by a Ranger/Triton dealer that both Ranger and Triton hulls are the same .

That is correct for their 18' 8" hulls, identical hulls and the two companies finish them off a bit differently plus different trailers, etc. Thus far only Ranger has the pad style hull unless Triton launches their version. With the sudden recession this might not be the best time to launch a new model.

I also had (have) a 176 and went to an X19. I blew the motor up on the 176 Magnum, and it needed carpet and seats, so I opted for a new to me X19. I still have my 176 and have dreams of restoring it to new and putting a new 115 on it. It was just the perfect sized boat for me and would run low to mid 50s. The problem is when you add up a new 115, new carpet, and new seats, plus all the extras, you would have dropped $15k in a boat that's 18 years old. Not sure what I'll end up doing with it.

Yeah, I could not justify spending money on the older boat. I wanted something a little bigger and a little faster.

I definitely love the "faster" but the X19 is a little overkill for how/where I fish. I wish I could put a 150 on that 176 Magnum. Then I wouldn't hesitate to restore it.

That 176 Magnum is rated for 125 hp, not sure what is available these days but a 115 Pro XS will be putting out 125 hp and that boat should really move.

I don't think anyone makes a 125 anymore but that 115 Pro XS would be awesome. I got 55.3 with my old Johnson 115. It would be a terrible financial decision to tie up all that money in a 2002 model boat, but man I love that boat!

    Doesn’t Suzuki make a 125?
