    Rod makeover. removing decals?

I have a St. Croix spinning rod that works perfect for me as a shakeyhead rod. The threads are starting to look rough and coming loose in places. I am considering rewrapping it and would like to change colors and to a different hook keeper as long as I am at it. The original St. Croix logo and specs may hinder what I want to do if I leave them in place. Is there a good way to get the original decals off? Not sure how the finish would turn out if I left it in place, clear coat on one side had gotten to a sandpaper like texture from years of laying in the sun.

Neil, I use scotch-brite as rough remover and them move to 600 grit sandpaper then to crocus cloth. Be glad to help you w/ it. I do some wrapping and refinishing and have a drying rack. phone # sent in PM.
