Prop and PtP for 20 TRX Patriot

Close to getting a new boat and was hoping to get some advice on props and PtP with this boat and the 250 Pro XS Fourstroke.

The boat should come from the factory with the engine mounted in the third hole on the jack plate and the jack plate all the way to the top. The boat was designed that way. The only thing you may need to do is drop the engine a tad. Most come with either a 24 or 25 Fury which the dealer pick the prop he wants on the boat. You will love the 20TRX with the new motor, they are running good.

Thanks JJ. I picked it up from Wieda’s on Sat and have had it out a couple times. I do love it. The motor is mounted as you describe and the prop is a 24p Tempest+. It seems to lose bite just as it breaks over and comes on plane. I need to learn to drive it of course but it does start walking in the upper 60s.

I have the same boat and motor on a 10" Atlas. Running a 24-3 Fury. Slips just a hair at break over, not enough to worry about. Boat runs 72-73 loaded down fishing full of fuel.

That probably describes mine. I hit 70.9 with my dad, my son and me (600+lbs) all my tackle and a full take of fuel. It still felt like to was pulling good when I shut it down.

I have a 25P Fury 3 Blade on mine with an Atlas 8" hydro and I have hit 76 MPH with about 500 lbs between 2 people and 3/4 tank of gas. It is the best thing in the world, besides sex lol

Thanks for the info. If I try another prop, that’s the one I had in mind. I had heard that the Fury props like to run higher that the Tempest. What’s your experience with that?

You have it backwards.....Fury props need to run lower PTP than Tempest Plus props.

Congratulations on your new boat purchase! I have a new one ordered and like you had a Triton TR-186 before.

Thanks. I recommend a hole shot plate for the jack plate. Put mine on last night and ran it today. Before, I would get a lot of water spray up through the jack plate at lower speeds and that is gone now. Gets on plane faster too. If your running a big HD transducer on the transom, the hole shot plate gets in the way the transducer won’t come up to level. So I think I’ll have to get one of the transducer saver and shields that mounts to the side of the jack plate. If you wanted to have it mounted outside of the jack plate that would be good to, just make sure it is low enough so the plate won’t interfere with the signal.

Mine will be a TRX 189 with a Mercury 4 stroke Pro XS 175 HP. My screens will be only 9 inches each. I am not a big fisherman, talk about it more than I do it but sometimes I just enjoy cursing the lakes. I probably won't need all that hopefully but it will have a jackplate. Anyway thanks for the advice as it is always welcome.

With a different boat, it may be different. I also had the hole shot plate on my 186 FWIW.

Can you describe your setup in regards to the jack plate mounting and engine mount location? I had added a 10" Atlas later and want to see if its mounted in the same position. I seem to have lost some speed and don't know if its the nicked up prop or height setup on the JP.
