2002 Yamaha VMax Spark Plug Destroyer

Can anyone explain to me why my Yamaha engine fouls out sparkplugs every 3 weeks? The engine was rebuilt 2 years ago, and still has good compression. It has always burnt through the sparkplugs frequently.

Is your oil pump linkage adjusted to specs?

Bad/lazy O2 sensor will lead to fouled plugs. Also check to make sure the oil linkage is set to spec as previously stated. Most are set rich. BR8HS10 is the plug you want.

Do not know anything about the oil linkage set to specs. Please inform. 02 sensor was changed about 2 years ago so maybe the oil linkage thing is the issue.

That wasn’t off much. Probably not your issue.

How far should it have been to be an issue? I Have to gap plugs on 45 to make them last three weeks. If I don't it will not idle in gear after the motor warms up - it back fires & shuts off. Specifically, after running on the water & idling to load boat back onto trailer it backfires & shuts off.
