Is the sport full grown yet?

My engine blew up Thursday. So far I've checked with 2 places and have some others looking. Sometime in 2021 is as soon as they think they might be able to get me a new engine.

I did find a 2 stroke. Problem is between 4 batteries, hydraulic pump and battery charger there's nowhere to put the oil tank. It's got a SHO on it now.

About $11,000 parts and Labor. Then you question what's going to happen to it next.

The top main seal came out of it last year because the last people that rebuilt it didn't do the recall on it to put the retrofit clamp on the seal. My guess is when the seal came out it rattled around long enough to start wearing the thrush bearing and it took 11 more months for it to come apart. It would need a long block kit at about $10,000 in parts + Labor. 60% of the price of a new engine.

I fish docks all the time therefore I see what changes the boat owners are making (new boats or repowering). I must say that I am seeing more pleasure outboard boats repowering in 2018 and this year. Many of those boats previously had 150's on them and I am seeing them repowering to 200, 225 and 250's. The other thing I am noticing is new high powered pontoon boats. Bennington is a big seller in Western NY and I have seen more twin 250's and 300's on pontoon boats. Just a few years back, it was a rarity to see a 150 on a pontoon. Now twin motor toons are popping up everywhere.

So bass boats aren't the only boats competing for high HP outboards.

My dealer repowered me with a new 2019 250 SHO, in and out in about 2 weeks. I didn't buy my boat there and its not a brand they sell so you cant say I got any special treatment or strings pulled.

They need to raise prices to equal out supply and demand.

They are about $20,000 now. I bought one about 15 years ago for around $11,000.
