Hello All,
2010 BassCat Puma FTD DC
2010 Mercury Pro Xs 250 (ser# 1B764965) (app. 800 hours)
Unfortunately last week the old Pro XS 250 decided to give up. Shot pieces of the connecting rods #5 and #6 through each lower side of the case. Funny part is it will still start and idle, lol. The lower unit was worn out also and I really want a new Pro XS 4 stroke. I am leaning against ordering a reman long block, but after calling a dozen or more boat shops and suppliers, it looks as though I may have to do something if I don't want to be down for a year or more. Anyway, I would like to learn a little more about the new Pro XS 4 strokes if anyone is willing to respond with some rays of light.
1. I have Merc smartcraft gauges, which should connect to new one?
2. On a repower such as mine, should I be looking for a DTS model or a remote model. I know (DTS) is digital throttle shift, but after researching I am very confused about what would be best for my application on a 2010 BassCat with a 2010 ProXS.
3. Anyone know where I can purchase new one (4 stroke)?
4. If I do get a reman long block, anyone know a reputable place to purchase one?
5. Any thoughts on why mine finally gave up? Seems lately I have been hearing a slight knock coming from the lower end of the crank. For a few months. Isolated it with a stethoscope and it sounded like the lower crank bearing was "singing" a bit. Still ran fine. Pistons and cylinders look fine, plugs look fine. Just got two big holes in the block, ha.
6. Drive shaft on the lower unit was pretty sloppy (had some end play). Is it possible that could have worn the crank bearing? Or just at 800 hours it was normal wear?
Anyway, any comments are appreciated. I cant be off the water for a year or two so will probably try to get a reman block while I wait. If I do I will definitely send the injectors to Don and probably get a new air compressor, it is original with 800 hours also. Looks fine (no play in shaft) but will still probably replace.
