    Coyote Experts

Have several neighbors report sitings. Got up this morning early to let dogs out and to feed them. Heard a strange sound in the woods. It almost sounded like a version of an owl (it was definitely not an owl). It would stop if I made any kind of movement.

I have googled coyote sounds and have heard the typical howl we are familiar with but this is different.

Thoughts?? I have considered setting up some “bait” in the back yard but not sure I want to lure them to the house....

Coyotes are usually pretty wary. Usually Will avoid getting too close to humans. Of course I did see one walking across my back yard not 80 yards from the house just 3 nights ago lol

We are about 30 miles north of you and have them all over the place. Farmers lose calves to them occasionally. Don't leave the cat outside!

If they’re hungry enough, they’ll even try to after a bigger dog.

An owl will make some weird sounds other than just the common hoot hoot.

The coyotes ive heard yipping were always at night. I cant place ever hearing them make a sound during the day. They also usually move at night as well from my understanding.

I doubt it was a coyote. They don't usually make a lot of noise once you spook them and if it was going silent when you moved, obviously it knew you were there. As mentioned before, fox do make some strange barking noises and are less concerned about human presence. I've had them bark at me around the field where they denned. Fisher make some spooky noises during mating season but that should be done by now.

I am going to second this. Fox make some crazy sounds...Coyote are generally sort of distinctive.

ahhhh gotcha... Yeah it reminds me of my cat when he gets to rooting around in stuff. I just didnt think it would be loud enough to hear from a distance.

But maybe a wild one would be. Coons are fun pets.

My son shot one that was on the back porch a few years back. They are getting bold.

Here is a way to fix your problem:

I live on the edge of town, had a huge male walk into the yard and stood on the edge of my drive 10 yards from my front door in broad daylight midday, he stared me down. He was relocated. I have relocated six within 50 yards of my door in the last two years. I have two small dogs. I haven't seen any nor have I heard any lately, but my relocation device is always handy. They can be very cunning and fearless it seems.
