    Loomis NRX overrated?

I have an NRX 854 that is a nice rod but truthfully don’t feel that it is head and shoulders above the rest given the price. My partner absolutely loves the NRX line so it makes for good conversation. Not trying to start a war but does anyone else feel that way too?

I have had most of the nrx offerings over the years and I was least impressed with the 854 I really enjoyed the 852 893 894 and 853 the 854 left me wanting more honestly but the 893 is my all time favorite jig rod and I throw 1/8 oz. T rigs up to 3/4 ounce footballs on it I think it's the stand out in the lineup I'd try it before you make up your mind on the nrx

I personally don't like the 853 or 854 either. The MBR 843 and 844 are much better rods in my opinion.

Can’t speak of the 854. However I have multiples of 893,894,873,and 852. Imo they are second to none

Just to reiterate what everyone else has stated. The NRX line up is the bench mark. Having said that there are certain rods that really stand out. 894 is thee! OMG jig rod. I can’t put it down. Next up is the 873, 872, 852. Haven’t fished the 893 but hear great things.

You pretty much bought the dud the the NRX lineup. That 854 along with the 895 are the two worst

    What's the issue(s) with the 895?

What is the main complaint with the 854c? I was planning on throwing a conquest on it and use it for frogs. I don't fish super heavy cover.

I mean first off do you need a 500 dollar frog rod I'd go with something a little heavier and less sensitive myself and sell the 854 I like the 854 glx better still not s frog rod even in open water

i think the main complaint with the 854 was the rods taper in general it didnt strike me for what i wanted it for in a bottom contact jig rod, but i did use it as an all purpose stick like skipping baits and spinnerbaits. for the price there are better frog rods out there but for light open water and smaller frogs the 854 would be ok to use.

Worst balance rod you will ever pick up . I sold mine after a week of owning it and never even had the chance to use it out on the water.

I like the 854 for 3/8 oz finesse swim jigs and Baby Brush Hogs. Originally I intended to only use NRX rods for bottom contact baits but I have started using some 853 rods for Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. I also have a lighter NRX which is a 842 or 843 that excels as a jerkbait / Rico rod. They're expensive but worth every penny....especially with the warranty. Now if I could just pull the trigger on the 902S Conquest!!!

I wasn't too impressed with my NRX 853c, i felt like my Envy Black was more sensitive than the 853c. I bought a 893c a few months ago and the sensitivity on this rod is a lot better than the 853.

The spinning conquest are sooo nice. I have a 842s, which may actually be better than my NRX 852s. The conquest is lighter by 9g (more than 1/4oz ~9%), which is insane. Buy it.

I use mostly heavier casting rods and found the 854 to be the worst of the bunch. It felt dead in my hands. The 893 was nice and sensitive, it just didnt fit anything i wanted it to do. The 873 (i have 3) and the 894 (i have 2) are the top dogs in the lineup in my hands. They cover all bottom contact presentations i fish. Ill even use the 894 for flipping and pitching. I love the 872s and have 2 of them but could see where the 852 would be an awesome stick for somebody that wanted a little more backbone. I have been wanting to try a conquest but havent talked myself into pulling the trigger yet
They aint got hands, set the hook

I know a NRX is overkill for an open water/light cover frog rod, but I like the rods...handle, lightness, warranty, etc. I ordered the 854c, but I could probably swap it for a 894c for not much. Worth making the swap, or should I see how the 854c does?

Agreed, I sold my NRX 852s and now have a Conquest 842s.

But I do love my 852c for shakey heads and my 843c for dragging tubes.

IMO the NRX rods are probably the most sensitive rods I have used though.....
