Would it be okay to use Mercury High Performance Gear oil SAE 90 in a 40hp Yamaha lower unit?
What year/model is the 40? Apparently the newer GL-5 rated lube isn't healthy for my Pro-V150, as it bonds too well to the non-steel parts, and takes a little metal with it when it gets sheared off. I'm sticking with the recommended GL-4 (hard to find cheap.. had to go with the Yammie stuff).
