Rewire trailer plug? extra wires!

I bought a 4way flat plug online. was just planning to cut the current plug (super beat up), and butt connecting with heat shrink over it. Ended up looking at the plug on the trailer and there are way more wires than the 4 I was expecting.

Anyone ever changed the plug out on their trailer? I dont wanna rewire everything since all works fine, just wanna make the plug a little nicer since the current one is beat, but still works. I figure the extra wires will just go 2 to the 1 when connecting? I dunno

If its an existing 4 prong plug that has multiple wires inbound why can't you just splice those multiple wires to the corresponding single wire of the new plug?

ill take a photo and post tomorrow. the colors dont all match up. the extras are gray in color.

Is your current trailer plug a 4 pin or (round) 7 pin?
