Can anyone tell me if there is a vent of some sort on gas tank of my champion boat

My '93 has a silver vent on the side of the gunwale/topcap about a foot and a half or so in front of the where the main gas cap is located. Just don't stand in front of it when filling up, as it will spit out on you if you overfill.
