    Helix 10msi g3n adjustment

    I recently upgraded to a Helix 10msi g3n, using the software 1.840.

Made a couple of short trips on lake today, to grab some screen shots for advice on TD adjustment.

TD is 13 inches from center of prop, the port side of TD is even with the hull and is pitched down 2 degrees.

Here are couple of screen shots for evalution. snap1.PNGsnap2.PNG

I read about the issues with high speed depth readings and did encounter it at just over 26mph.
The other concern I have is the port Side image seems a bit darker and grainy, I tried trimming motor and reducing speed and it helps a bit.
Am considering moving TD closer to keel.

    Wayne, what would you recommend?

    Thanks

Two things that will cause that:

1.Partial blockage from the outboard lower unit if the transducer is on the starboard side of the outboard.

    2. Disturbed (aerated) water coming off the hull bottom if the transducer is on the starboard side of the keel. The SI pulses "see" more of that on the port side than the starboard side. Yes moving it closer to the keel will lessen that effect.

    Wayne,
    Thanks for info.
I just got back from a short test run, after lowering the TD 1/8". That adjustment did not help either the SI issue or the depth at speed over 26 issue.
I will move TD closer to keel and do another test.
Would updating to 1.94 software be of any help? I understand there some users that regretted going to 1.90, however is 1.94 an improvement?

The results of updating have been mixed, you just have to try it and see what effect you get.

All of the hull to the left of your transducer is below the level of the transducer, none of the hull to the right of the transducer is below the level of the transducer. That is why it sees all the disturbed water on the port side of the transducer.

You should get none of that when sitting still and don't have your outboard blocking it. Software won't fix an inadequate installation.

My hull is not as V as yours and I can make both sides black out just by adjusting the transducer height above the hull bottom and go fast enough to cause the aeration:

    Ok,
    Thanks for explanation.
I'll stick with 1.84 for now and have moved the TD closer to keel.
    Time for another test run.

    Wayne,
Do you have pic of how your TD is mounted?

It would not help you. It is not attached to the hull. I currently have the MEGA SI+ on a former transom mount trolling motor shaft and mount. I can adjust it to about any level I want. I change stuff around frequently.
I have two of those mounts, one is a old metal mount/shaft and the other is a new composite mount/shaft.
The setup in my last post was using the same mount attachment.

    Understood.

Just did a test run, moving closer to keel has helped.

This shot is with motor trim down.

This shot is motor trim up about 1/2 way.
    S00014.PNG

The depth reading at speed got more erratic, so I may try more small height adjustments.
Other than that it should be good. Just need more time on water.
