    The tubing is 1/2"O.D. x .035" stainless steel tubing. I made it long enough that I can insert the plug and have the end of the rod hanging out enough behind the transom to be able to turn it. Still need to kneel down to get it in the hole, but it works flawlessly to install, and remove the plug.

    If you can’t find tubing after reading this I made one out of 1/2” CPVC pipe I had on hand & it works great!
