Starting point for new z18
2019 z18 175 4 stroke pro xs 24p fury
6 inch jack plate prop to pad 3 1/4"
Hot foot
With a medium tournament load 3/4 tank fuel
2 people equaling 440lbs and full live well it was slow to plane and would only turn 5000 rpm 58 mph with full trim. I am comparing slow to breaking it in with half tank fuel no gear and 220lbs of me. Does this sound right or do I need to tinker. After break in I pulled it to 5500 rpm at 64 and trimmed down due to chine walk. Thank you in advance.

I forgot to mention 3 blade fury and no rooster tail.

Your about 1000 rpms lower than you want to be so I'd raise it 1/4" just to see how it runs then raise it another 1/4" and see how many rpm's you can turn it. You may have to get a 23" fury 3 for your boat because at 5500 empty you are still 500 rpm's below max and you want to get as close to max rpm's as you can.

Started raising the motor 1/4" at a time. I stopped at 2 inches prop to pad. Finally started getting a little rooster tail about half the height of the the motor. Water pressure was 20 psi @5600 rpm GPS 63 mph. I'm still not happy with the speed. I fell it should be faster and the steering was a little stiff. What should I try next? Maybe raise the motor some more or prop or vent plugs. The prop doesn't have any plugs in it now. It did plane very fast though.

Raised the motor up to 2" ptp. Water pressure 20 psi@5600 rpm 63 mph hummingbird helix GPS. I'm starting to get a little rooster tail now about half as high as the motor. The steering is still a little stiff. This still doesn't seem right to me. I feel it should be faster. What should I try now? Keep raising motor or maybe a prop change.

Raised motor to 2" ptp. 20 psi water@ wot. 5600 rpm as high as it would go hummingbird helix GPS 63 mph. Steering a little stiff and a little rooster tail coming up. Still not happy. I think it should be faster

If the steering got stiff your too high so drop it back down 1/4" and try it. 63 is probably close to the top speed your going to get with that boat and motor. Just the hull weighs 1700 lbs dry and that's a lot of weight for a 175 to push much faster. The only thing I would do is get a 23 Fury to try to get the rpm's up on that motor.
-
Thank you I will give it a try.
-
If it's still stiff after dropping it a 1/4" drop it another 1/4". You may need to drop more but don't drop it too much at one time.

I think your at about your max with a 175.. 63 to 64 best your going to see.
-
Yes 63-64 but a 23 fury will get your rpm's up and make your motor last longer.
-
mine came with 22p tempest. 62.5 so far 5850, 5.5 hrs on the motor so halfway through break in.

I have ordered a vessel view to confirm all my gauges. I also talked to my nearest prop shop and they recommended going down to a 23 fury to get to max rpms. I'm fine with wot being 64 I just want my new boat and motor to be able to run it's full potential. Most of the trips out i have taken i run about mid to high 50's, once again i just want it to be set up to run it's full potential. thank you. When i get my vessel view i will update.

I have also lowered the ptp down to 2 7/8" because there was no performance gain when I went higher.

Just confirmed with vessel view. 375lbs of people 1/2 tank fuel half full live well. Wot 61.7 mph @ 5200 rpm. Half tournament load full trim. No rooster tail and no chine walk. PTP 2 7\8 " . I am going to get the dealer to switch out my 24 fury with a 23 fury.
