    190 TX

I have a 2006 190 TX with a 90 Optimax. I am looking at new props. The Mercury prop selector chooses 21p Trophy Plus as the prop for my needs. That seems like a large pitch prop for that motor. My motor is in the second hole from the top. I am looking at the Spitfire X7 but don't know if the 19 or 21 pitch is what I would need. If you have any suggestions or experience with this boat and these props please let me know.

Trophy is a very good prop for this motor and boat. When I had a 90 on my tracker, it was turning a 25 pitch trophy but that was with a jack plate and by far the fastest prop I've tried. A trophy is going to run a lot better with a jack plate. It likes to run high. If you are not running a jack plate, spitfire might be a better option.

A spit fire is like a trophy, to perform well it needs to run high. I tried my
spitfire first w/o a plate, and it was very doggy. A JP brought it to life.
My gear case isnt a low water PU model, so I'm still not as high as
I need to be. I can live w/o what little speed I would gain VS the cost
of BOBS LW pickup modification to my case. LDS

What RPM's are you running at WOT, 21 seems a little tall for the 90, I have the same boat same year with the 115 four stroke, and have a 19 pitch on it. I just got the boat so I've not had it on the lake to play with it yet other than the test drive, I looked a BPS the other day and the PT 190 on the showroom floor had a 21 on the 115,
Also check over at Bass Boat central they had a tracker section on there forum. and there was a big discussion on the PT 190 W the 90hp and props

I am leaning toward the 19p X7. The 21 Laser 2 turns about 5400 on Vessel View. The speed is about 34 to 36 gps. That Trophy Plus sure sounds interesting but I dont want to add a jack plate. Maybe the X7 will be alright since my motor is in the second hole.

I don't remember which SS prop I'm running on my Merc 90 2 stroke, seems like it said "Quicksilver 2000" on it, but I know it is a 20p, I run about 5400 max and 45 on a PT185 with just me in it, basically the same hull.

I don't know a lot about propellers so if you have any suggestions about a good performing prop please let me know. I guess the Laser 2 does ok but I am open to improvement.

If you can find a 19 Laser II Try it. It will be 1 to 2 MPH
faster than the X7 even w/the X7 on a JP.
The X7 will improve your holeshot over the Laser II, but will cost
    you speed. LDS

Ya need to have the prop worked to reduce the slip
and it will increase your speed. LDS

Thanks for all the replies. All the numbers I posted along with a 6 second holeshot are all from my vessel view mobile. Keep the suggestions coming.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know why my top end is low. The bottom of the boat is clean and slick. I may pull the prop and examine it. I feel that turning those rpm the speed should be mid 40's.

If I am now over reving with the 21 won't it even be worse with the 19?

If the 21 has insufficient cup to grab water, yes you can trim it to an
over rev situation, and go nowhere. To ck, a motor runs at peak efficiency
when you run at neutral trim. That means at any trim angle as the boat lifts,
the prop shaft needs to run parallel with the surface of the water.
In doing so if you look back, you should see a very minimal amount of
spray above the cowl, Always prop to max RPMs in any weather. Lugging
an engine is just as hard on a motor as over revving.
I'm still leaning toward the 19 LaserII and running in the 3rd hole up.

Thanks, I think I will look for a 19p to try. I would really like to get to 45 mph

I guess the gear ratio is the difference. Mine is 2.33 and I believe yours is 2.07. There is a lot on the forum that knows more about this than me.
