I asked the same question when I got my new Bullet. Depending with brand you go with, check with John with Jones Trolling Motors Services (board sponsor). I wanted to get rid of the plug and wire directly to the batteries but I'm not electrically savvy enough so I just stayed with the factory rigging... But someday... Dan

Direct wired, best way to go
Connected to the back of the plugin on the dash. Then put a disconnect back next to the batteries
