So I'm driving to a tournament the other day, and I look back in the mirror, and see the sidewall slightly bulging on my Port trailer tire. Well, when I left the house it looked a tad low, but hell, it's a radial and I just finished a 4 hour tow the week before and it looked the same. My GPS said I'd arrive at the ramp at 0630, plenty of time for a 0700 launch.
I'm on the 65 MPH speed limit bypass and I hear a loud crashing sound over the air conditioner fan and look back in time to see pieces of my trailer fender descending on the highway. Well, the tire was still inflated but I pulled off on the shoulder and went back to inspect the damage. Fender:totally gone. Fender supports: bent all to hell and loose on the frame. Left turn signal light: broke out of the housing hanging by the wiring. Left running light: totally M I A. Tire: missing about 30% of the tread.
I got out my Harbor Fright jack and breaker bar, went to loosen the wheel but did not have a 13/16" socket. I had a 6 point 7/8" and it fit, but sloppy. It worked well enough to change the tire thank goodness.
When I got to the launch ramp everybody had left, and the tide was so high I had to wade in to get to my launch rope.
Tire pressure? Sounds like I should have checked it.
