    Ford 3.5L EcoBoost, Chevy 6.2L EcoTec8 V8, or Ford 3.0L Power-Stroke Diesel

For starters, this truck is only a boat puller and the occasional load of gravel, mulch, etc. Not pulling skid loaders etc.

Would like any information on gas mileage since the Chevy went to a 10-speed tranny.
Have heard the Chevy 10 spd tran is very smooth, up and down shifting, but haven't heard if thats w/ or w/o boat in tow.
Have rode in both the 3.5 and 3.0 with boats and they both feel strong, but not any time behind the wheel to truly get a feel for the pull/drive or the MPG.

So if you have had more than one your opinion would be great.

I currently have the 2.7 Eco boost and enjoy it, works great for my smaller z118 ranger and know it will tow a 20 footer no problem (towed my buddies several times). But if I did have the heavier boat I'd go with the 3.5 EB and/or the new diesel. I know here in Canada the diesel f150 is only available in the platinum trim and up so if you not ready to fork over the premium price I'd go 3.5 eb.

3.5 Ecoboost with 3.73 gears is a beast pulling boats are no problem. I would go with it just because it’s been around for awhile now and dependable.

I have a 16 3.5 Eco KR 4x4. I just made 220 mile round trip towing a tandem with my Triton 19XS. Drove 65 and pulled through mountain and back home. Round trip was 13.1 MPG. I have a 3.31 6 speed tranny.

last month my my truck was due for oil change and owner of the Ford dealership had a 18 F150 Diesel loaner with 10 speed tranny. Didn’t search for gears and it was smooth. I drove a 100 mile round trip and the diesel got 16.1 MPG.

My 3.5 ecoboost performed better and accelerates much better.

Buddy has a 18 Chevy with 6.2. Not sure if tranny is 10 speed or not. Nowhere close to performance of ecoboost.

I have a Ford F250 with a 6,2 engine, On the highway empty will run on the highway around 22.5 mile per gal. Running with four adults loaded will run about 18 mpg and pulling the boat, 19 foot Stratos with a 175 will run 15mpg. Pulling a 32 fifth wheel and boat around 9mpg.

I’d eliminate the diesel as it’s high maintenance cost plus you also have to purchase the extra blue def. can buy a lot of gas with the gas engines. As far as the 3.5 or the 6.2 is a hard decision. The 6.2 is going to be better for low end tongue being the V8.

GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado with the 2.8 Diesel. I routinely achieve north of 27mpg on the highway commute. I've achieved as high as 35mpg over an extended commute.

They can pull 7600lbs and support about 1500lb payload. All while easily maneuvering around a parking lot in a more than manageable and useful size.

For towing the 369lb ft of torque is available at only 2k RPM.

They must make them different in Canada or you never get it above 65 because no way in hell would my f250 gas get 22 unloaded on the interstate or 15 pulling a boat. It’s a 2017 f250 lariat 6.2 crew cab 4x4 and is a beast of a truck pulling boats but unloaded running 80 on interstate I get 14-15 and pulling a 21’ bass boat with cruise at 80 I get 10-11.

You are going to get a ton of different answers on here. I have a buddy who works at Ford and just got a new Ford eco-boost and absolutely hates the new 10 speed tranny. Maybe an issue w/just his but says it feels like it is constantly trying to find the right gear to stay in. If I were in the market for a new 1/2 truck it would be a new Ram 1500.

That's the secret, drive in Canada were the top highwyt speed lint is 110kilometers per hour or roughly 65mph. My wife said that I drive like an old man, just the speed limit and usually no more than that. Made a trip to Tennessee few years back and averaged 20mpg with stopping only twice to put gad in the truck.

Chevy and Ford use the same 10 speed transmission, as they did the 6 speed transmission. Both were joint ventures, with Ford doing the main engineering work. The 6 speed was so good they are still producing it nearly a decade after it was supposed to end production. So far the 10 speed feedback has been positive.

I have a 2019 GMC with the 6.2. I don't have any empty mileage, as I use it to tow a 6K travel trailer. Just pulled from 100' elevation to 5000' and it did great. Way better that the 2015 2500 with the 6.0 gas and just as good as the 2016 2500 with the 6.6 diesel. The 10sp was smooth with the load and didn't hunt. Towing that load, I had 9.5-10 mpg

Have a 3,5 in Expedition. Best tow vehicle I ever owned. With the tow haul package, the computer shifting and braking is great

I've had a 2015 and 2018 F150 crew cab both with 3.5 EB. Pulls great. I just bought a 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 loaded with 6.2. I haven't pulled yet but gobs of power. Rides better and considerably better fuel economy
