    Quabbin reservoir - image interpretation

First time using side imaging. Humminbird Helix 7 G3N in a rented aluminum boat, an 8hp engine, with the transducer mounted by magnetically sandwiching the left side of the hull.

The Quabbin was once a number of towns that were unincorporated and flooded in the 1930's. Are the first two images an old riverbed that I bisected?

First look like a creek bed, third looks like a road to me. Don’t have any reservoirs like that around here so I’m hardly your best bet at a good answer.

You are trying to see too much to the sides. Try 3-4 times the depth.

Are you saying if you're 10 foot deep, you should set your SI at 30-40 feet? It seems like you'll miss quite a bit. Is it just because at less distance using SI you get better images?

yes, i may push it to 75' each side in 10' if the water conditions allow it. it will let you set up the screen to not burn out the close returns and not waste the super dark outside
