1000 islands Clayton area in August

Looking at renting a place for a few days in early August. I’ve never fished the St Lawrence so I’m looking for any tips for a family style fishing trip. Likely will launch in or around Clayton and try to fish nearby. What types of structure should I look for and or depths? Thanks in advance

Also, is there a canal with a speed limit. My graph shows a channel up the American side saying 9.5 knots. Is that something for freight boats or for anyone in it?

Thats the American narrows, last time I was there it was a no wake zone/10mph and they do patrol that pretty heavy. Just a very narrow stretch of the river

Is it a channel that runs through the river that you can go on the outside of?
