Best Concentration of Small, SM Lakes

Mulling over a stop at MN with my kayak next year, wondering what area of your state has the best small (say less than 900 acres) lakes for smallies? Or either species of bass?

Are any quality smallmouth lakes electric only?

I zoom in on google maps and I see such density of good looking water...wouldn't know where to begin haha. The thought of fishing a different small lake every day of the trip sounds like heaven. Any input appreciated!

If you're into camping I'd say the BWCA

BWCA is probably the best for what your describing. Not to much lakes to choose from in central MN unless you want to fish the river. The lakes that do have smallies in central MN are usually on the medium to large size with a few exceptions.

Possibly Grand Rapids would be another option. Several small carry-in only lakes up there that have good smallmouth populations.

Check out the MN DNR lakefinder to check individual lakes or areas (you can also use the map and click on lakes to check surveys): https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/index.html
