1000 island out of Clayton. Worth going?

I hear the water level is way up? Is it still worth going? A small group is going up for the first time. Any help suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Heading up middle of June for 3-4 days. Thanks!

If I wasn't lost, I'd surely know where I was going!

Not sure if you're aware but catch and release fishing in the 1000 islands out of season (before 3rd Sat. in June) is not allowed.
If you're going after that, then yes for sure! The fish will be eating really well or spawning
Just be very careful with floating debris and drive slow around peoples docks and property

Bass fishing is off limits until June 15th. Youd have to go after that date to legally fish for bass in Jefferson County. Clayton is nice especially since there’s a ton of cabins and hotels that are boat friendly nearby. Also the 1000 islands baitshop I’m Alex bay is only 15min away. The good thing too is if you want to fish the main lake it’s right there, or if you want to hit the islands, you’re smack dab in the middle of them. The bass will be in spawn mode mid-late June. Was fishing Little Sodus bay last week and water temps were low 50s. Definitely watch for floating debris and submerged rocks. with this high water you’re gonna want to use any mapping options you have

Yeah you will be good arriving on the 19th.
It will be busy but the nice part about the islands is that there is fish everywhere and you can always find a spot without a boat
    They should be spawning/post spawn
    Enjoy!

It doesn’t look like a very far run from Clayton. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, if your going to be going out on the river anytime soon there is a TON of floating debris. I was out a couple nights ago and there was everything you could imagine floating down through. Just use caution! Also, as of 5/22 there is a 600 feet no wake zone from shore (at least in St Lawrence County). If you do make it up, good luck, it’s an awesome place to fish!

I was up there in 17 when the water was high and it was difficult to find a place to launch due to the ramps being closed. We stay in cape Vincent and are suppose to go up on the 15th. I’m thinking I’m gonna call around the end of the week to see if any ramps are open with the high water before making the drive. Anyone launched around the cape Vincent or Clayton area in the last few days? I noticed on the NOAA page it’s higher now than 17.

Best bet is to give them a call and see what they say. French creek has a pretty good ramp that should be open but I’d call to make sure.

Was the main launch in Cape Vincent closed when you were there?
