New to me boat with above motor. Trim works but gage on console does not. How can I check to see if it’s gage or sending unit?
Sending unit is on the tilt tube. make sure your power is turned on/key in the on position. Then push on the lever at the tilt tube and see if the gauge moves. Chances are the metal tab that rotates to engage the sending unit is out of adjustment or has possibly fallen off..

Trim cam is probably needed to be adjusted or replaced. Cheap part. Ordered one from sim yamaha last week.
Can I take a resistance reading to check it?
You could to check the sender. But first look on your tube for the trim cam amd see if its lined up, or broken.
