2005 Optimax 225 just wont go.

I recently replaced the mid section and lower unit on this motor after hitting a floating log running wide open. The motor never shut of just did itd Mercury scream and high RPM's until i could cut it off. It started right back up and reved fine. I took it to the water today and the following is what happens.
Cranks up quick and easy. idles anywhere you want to go, but will not jump out of the water and plane out.
It idles around 900-1000 (in or out of gear). I put it in gear and it idles fine. (while in forward) I can get on the hot foot and it goes up to 2700 RPm (max) the boat does not attempt to plane out.
with the boat in neutral It idles fine but when I floor it the RPMs hit 2700 and I get an alarm.
With the boat in reverse I can floor it and it rev's up with no problems and moves the boat like it should.
I disconnected the Neutral sensor switch and with the boat in neutral I can rev it up as much as I want to (The sky is the limit). When I put it in gear it will not take off and it only goes up to 2700 rpm's.
I have checked the spark plugs and there were no wet ones. I did not check all cylinders for firing but then again it starts and runs fine it just will not plane out. I tried 2 props a lazer 2 and a tempest both 24 pitch.
I look forward to your idea's and questions on how to fix this thing.

    1. Get the faults cleared and start over again with on water testing. It is likely you induced some faults that are not relevant to the actual problem.
    2. Never ever REV an optimax motor if its not in gear.

I just checked out your other thread on basically the same subject....... any chance you overheated it badly when it had no water flow?
Any chance it's still not assembled correctly and it's overheating now?
Is the new SEI gearcase the same gear ratio?

    From your other thread ^^^
If you didn't install a new impeller after flipping the original that had already taken a set, I would change it regardless.

I wonder if he did a link and sync after pulling the power head off?

Do I have to have a meter to clear the faults? It rev'd up when I cleared the log. It wouldn't let me over rev (it would cut out and alarms went off so I backed it out). When I disconnected the neutral saftey switch I could rev over 3000 rpms but this problem started before I ever did that.

I don't think it was badly overheated. Plugs all looked good and It was cut off when alarms sounded.
I feel confident its assembled correctly now. I don't think overheating is the problem but I really don't know that for sure.
SEI is the same ration this is the 3rd one I have gotten from them. They have my info on file.

I replaced the the impeller with a new Quicksilver impeller. It has good water flow now.

I don't know of a link in Sync. I did the work myself. What exactly is a link & Sync?

It's the calibration of the throttles and the timing advance.

It's something a good home mechanic with a factory service manual can do.

There's no "sync and link" on an Optimax.
